Colorado Mule Deer Outfitters
Several years ago, the Colorado Division of Wildlife announced a new, early high country deer season in the Flat Tops Wilderness. This was the mule deer season that we had been waiting for. It gives us the opportunity to hunt mule deer with a rifle in September, before the October rifle seasons. This is a deer only season. Hunt will take place in units 25 and 26, where Winterhawk has nearly all of the permitted area. Units 25 and 26 are in Garfield and Eagle counties, the two counties that have more record book mule deer bucks than any other two counties in the state. This will be a great opportunity to take a trophy mule deer. The bucks will be rubbed off and hard horned, not in velvet. We will be hunting for bucks 26" and larger with a minimum score of 170. This will be a pack-in camp hunt, likely from spike camps at or near timberline (9500' to 12000' elevation). Remember, the Deer Licenses for this hunt is on a drawing and the deadline for applications is April 3, 2012. For non-residents it will take approximately 8 or 9 preference points to draw this Deer License. For Colorado residence it will take approximately 4 or 5 preference points to draw this Deer License.
- We are limiting these hunts to one hunter per hunt.
- These will be one-on-one hunts, one hunter per guide.
